It’s a small world after all…

Demand for glamping structures is spreading around the world, according to a South West shepherd hut producer.

Blackdown Shepherd Huts, based in Somerset, are fast becoming a business to be reckoned with.

Will Vickery, who runs the hand-crafted shepherd huts business, employs a team of 10 in his workshop, which is based just outside Ilminster.

Responding to a global market, customers are contacting Blackdown from all corners of the globe, with recent deliveries going as far as Italy and Kenya.

And demand within the UK continues to rise, with British customers buying them for both commercial and residential purposes. Will says that Jaguar Landrover recently acquired a standard shepherd hut with log burner and a toilet unit shepherd hut to be used by Landrover Experience in Eastnor, Herfordshire, to host groups attending full day adventures, as well as for corporate hospitality and as a retreat for guests.

“Customers have been asking more and more for high end solutions providing the hotel experience with the charm of staying in a field,” Will added. “Customers don’t want the hassle of making up a bed every night but still want the comfort of a table and seating area. To solve this problem we have developed an ingenious solution. There is a table and seating area with a bed that folds out of the wall fully made up and ready.

“The Artisan self-build option continues to be popular, but the high level of skills within the team has enabled Blackdown to also develop a complete high-end luxury shepherd hut living space for those people who are seeking quality craftsmanship that will last.”
